Joseph Weiss was an artist and aviation pioneer. His fascinating story came to light indirectly through a postcard sent from his house by his mother-in-law. This photograph shows the aftermath of one of his unsuccessful powered flight trials on Clymping beach, where he based himself in the remains of the Napoleonic Littlehampton Fort. There are numerous references to his art and gliding activities online.
